Application of 3D models

  • Acquiring surfaces (IGES, STEP) by placing them automatically on a 3D model
  • Creating a program for a CNC machine and further processing
  • Producing a 3D scanned part using a 3D printer

3D scanning limitations

  • Getting highly precise (up to 0.1 mm) data on objects larger than 1 m is impossible
  • 3D scanning is not meant to be used for accuracy or size control (within 0.01 mm), a coordinate-measuring machine is needed
  • If a parametric model needs to be created, a qualified specialist is necessary to build such a model using the 3D scanning data
  • Shiny or black objects need to be covered in matting spray. The spray is similar to chalk and can be easily removed with water or alcohol
