Using 3D scanning in autotuning

Modern 3D technologies have found wide application in the automotive industry. 3D scanners are used not only at the design stage of a car, but also during repairs and car tuning. The new technology has become a real breakthrough in the market, because previously the design of cars was carried out only manually. However, even minor inaccuracies in the calculations seriously spoiled the appearance of the car and worsened its aerodynamics.

It is possible to avoid design errors only if accurate calculations are performed. The 3D scanner allows you to carry out this important work in automatic mode. 3D scanning has become an indispensable tool for specialists working in the automotive industry, as it allows them to achieve maximum accuracy in designing parts and solve problems of high complexity in the shortest possible time.

The specialists of the company NRing, which deals with the repair, maintenance and preparation of cars for the requirements of any Russian racing series, needed help in obtaining the high-precision geometry of the front suspension of the KIA RIO car. The most effective solution to this problem is the use of 3D scanning technology.

Scanning the chassis was entrusted to RangeVision specialists, as it is a manufacturer of 3D scanners and a software developer, meaning its specialists know literally everything about the nuances of 3D scanning.

3D scanning with RangeVision equipment opens up wide opportunities for specialists, allowing them to:

  • speed up the car production, repair, or tuning process;
  • achieve a high level of accuracy;
  • improve work efficiency;
  • reduce the cost of the service;
  • visualize the project.

The customer needed to obtain the initial surface of the chassis and the engine mounting points for measuring and designing the mounting brackets for the modified gearbox. After agreeing on the terms and scope of work, a RangeVision specialist went to the NRing service with a set of necessary equipment.

The digitization of the geometry of the car was performed by an industrial 3D scanner RangeVision PRO. The scan result with a high volumetric accuracy of less than 0.2 mm was prepared in STL format and sent to the customer within one business day.

To optimize the design of the mounting brackets of the updated gearbox, the captured suspension geometry was set in the coordinate system of the 3D model provided by the customer.

Thus, 3D scanning has become part of a large and time-consuming work to modernize and prepare the car for racing competitions.

Using a professional RangeVision PRO 3D scanner allows you to quickly perform high-precision design of car parts. The 3D scanner allows you to obtain a high-resolution digital copy in stl format of the prototype, including the smallest elements. The computer model of the part and its animated presentation allow you to visualize the result in detail and, if necessary, carry out additional measurements, virtual tests and calculations of the structure without additional financial and time costs. Due to the accuracy of the project achieved during the scanning and subsequent measurements, it is possible to obtain products of the highest quality that fully meet the requirements of manufacturers and specialists who repair and tune equipment.

Domestic RangeVision 3D scanners increase accuracy and accelerate the process of obtaining results not only in the automotive industry, but also in other industries, and also help solve import substitution problems without loss of quality.
