Reverse engineering of a broken mobile home part

Calibry 3D scanner helped recreate a broken car part that is no longer in production.
Briefly: Uniqo Engineering, Thor3D's partner in Spain, used the Calibry 3D scanner to digitize a mobile home in order to recreate a new part to replace a broken factory one.
Task: To recreate a broken car part that is no longer in production.
Tools: Calibry 3D Scanner, Calibry Nest, SolidWorks, Blackbelt 3D printer.
The result: The car was successfully repaired using 3D technology.

When a manufacturer stops producing components, it always becomes a problem — where can I get new ones to repair broken equipment? Our partner Uniqo Engineering received an order to recreate a broken mobile home part that was no longer manufactured by the manufacturer. Uniqo Engineering used a Calibry handheld 3D scanner to obtain the geometry of the original part attached to the other side and the part of the car where the part was missing.

The preparation and scanning did not take much time, and the pipeline of the project turned out to be quite simple.:

1. First, markers were applied to the scanned area, as the surface had insufficient geometry.
2. Then a scan was performed, which took 10−15 minutes.
3. The point cloud was processed in Calibry Nest.
4. The finished model was transformed into a solid in the SolidWorks program.

After the model was turned into a solid, it was 3D printed in three parts. According to Thor3D's partner, it took about 48 hours to print. Finally, the new car part was finished and ready for installation.
